Does The Solar Panel Charge The Battery Directly On Gate Openers?

Solar Panel LiftMaster Gate Operators

If you have or are considering purchasing a gate opener with solar capabilities, you may wonder how the solar process works. After all, it’s good to know the inner workings of your operator if something malfunctions. Depending on how much your gate operator cycles throughout the day, you may need larger solar panels if they control dual or single gates. Other than that, all solar panels and batteries work almost the same way.

How LiftMaster Solar Panels Work With A Battery

LiftMaster solar panels are connected to the gate operator and are charged by a battery. Connections differ based on the gate operator you will utilize. However, for most operators, the connection is taken through the control panel on the charge in located near the power-out connection. Solar panels are connected through black and red wiring. Please check the corresponding manual if you have questions about any LiftMaster models. Solar panels and connection methods may vary.

Solar Panel Maintenance for LiftMaster Gate Operators

To keep solar panels in tip-top shape, clean them regularly so that the solar panels can take in the energy from the sun. Also, ensure your solar panels are in an area with direct sunlight. As an additional precaution, if your solar panels endure winter weather under negative thirty-two degrees Fahrenheit, you’ll need 33Ah batteries instead of the usual 7Ah batteries. Batteries are more likely to freeze when exposed to cold weather and not adequately charged. Therefore, ensure you use the proper battery to survive the winter. Your solar panel may not get as much sunlight in the winter compared to the summer, but it should still work correctly if you take the proper steps to winterize your setup.

Most LiftMaster gate operators are solar compatible and can be made into a solar system using a solar package.
