Why Does My LiftMaster Gate Opener Beep Three Times?

Gate Opener

If you own a Lift Master gate opener and have noticed a strange beep emitting from your unit, just like a smoke or carbon dioxide alarm, this signal indicates serious issues with your gate operator. To figure out exactly what is wrong, you'll need to look at what operator you have and what the manufacturer says in the manual. However, a few key problems could contribute to the alarm sounding for most of these operators.

Why Is My Gate Operator Beeping Three Times?

The usual cause of this beep is when the battery is low. Sometimes this occurs if lightning strikes the power source and your gate operator switches from voltage power to the standby battery. While your gate opener will continue working, it produces three warning beeps, letting you know the battery is not receiving power. However, if the beep does not go off three times but continuously goes off for five minutes, this could indicate another problem.

Obstruction Near Lift Master Gate Operator

If you hear an alarm, check the area around your gate first. Your gate may have a branch in the way, a child's toy, or some other object blocking its path. Sometimes, even a smaller object could trigger the alarm, so always keep the path of your gate clean. Also, remember to look for mud, rocks, and dirt in the gate's path. These can also cause an alarm to go off.

Gate Does Not Fit Sizing And Weight Limits

If your operator is made to fit a specific gate length and weight, it cannot be used with a longer or heavier gate. If you do this, an alarm will sound off, letting you know that the opener and gate are incompatible.

Gate Has Broken Parts

Sometimes, a broken axle or wheel can cause the opener to sound the alarm. Check your gate parts to ensure this is not the issue.

Parts Are Not In The Correct Place On Gate

Another issue similar to broken parts is if a part of the gate is not in the correct place. Wheels and other moving pieces can sometimes fall off the gate rail or misalign. Check near the gate's wheels to see if this is the case.

What Happens After A Gate Alarm Sounds For Five Minutes?

Once the gate alarm sounds for five minutes first:

  1. Check For Obstructions, Broken Pieces, Or Anything Else Starting The Alarm
  2. Use The Reset Button To Turn Off The Alarm And Reset Operator
  3. Once This Is Finished, Normal Functions Should Resume
